Male Breast Reduction; Third Most Common Procedure By Dr. Sutton Graham on August 19, 2016

We were surprised to hear a recent patient say they didn't realize a plastic surgeon in our area treats men with overly prominent breasts.  We've been doing that for 15+ years.  Recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows "breast reduction in men (gynecomastia)" is the third most common male cosmetic surgery procedure.  http://www.plasticsurgery.org/Documents/news-resources/statistics/2015-statistics/cosmetic-procedures-men-2015.pdf

Our most common male procedures also include eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty), facelift, liposuction, tummy tuck.  And many men see us for Botox, skin care, laser and hair removal (in pure numbers of procedures, non-surgical treatments are more common).

Gynecomastia treatment consists of some combination of removal of the dense fibrous tissue (excision) and removal of excess chest fat (liposuction).  After we examine each patient, we can determine the best treatment.  We use our nationally accredited surgical facility and board-certified anesthesiologist.  The procedure takes from 1-2.5 hours.  Recovery typically means medication and rest for a few days, and resuming non-strenuous activities in less than one week.  You'll have to delay work-outs and sports for 3 weeks and wear a compression vest to improve healing.  Numbness is the most common side effect.
