We are occasionally asked how is the procedure you do different from one of these brand name procedures. Dr. Graham frequently is unable to tell you the answer.  The terms often aren't actually specific operations.  The brand names represent a new concept in marketing surgery.  They do not necessarily describe a actual operation done by a surgeon, but rather a concept, trademark, logo, etc. used to allow easy promotion of a company.

When we consult with a man or woman, Dr. Graham assess your desires and anatomy, then describes how he would address the concerns.  The details of incision placement, how each tissue layer is handled, the possible outcomes and side effects are discussed.  He describes his approach.  Another surgeon would have to describe their approach, but rarely know enough about others to discuss differences step-by-step.

Having experience consisting of many years and thousands of operations, we apply what we have learned to give patients our best.  The operations Dr. Graham performs today are not done the same way he learned in residency, but benefit from medical research and shared experience of many, many surgeons.  Academic and community surgeons have historically accumulated experience on their new techniques, then shared their experience through medical articles, meeting presentations and in-person demonstrations.  Sometimes techniques became associated with the surgeon's name, but more often techniques became know by terms describing them: deep plane facelift, SOOF lift, endoscopic midface lift.  This knowledge was shared freely and openly.
