Breast Implants Over Sixty
Many people are surprised to hear that a significant portion of our breast augmentation patients are in their sixties. And this is only first-time breast patients; there are also many that are having re-operation to maintain or improve their enhancement. It does not surprise us because we see so many women and men who are physically fit and active (tennis, biking, Cross-Fit, rowing, Barre & Pilates, running, etc.). We are just part of patient's strategy to keep looking and feeling their best. Tummy tuck and breast lift would be even more common in our experience.
The most recent national statistics which group patients by age use the category 55+. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2015 data shows 2% of breast augmentation patients. Overall 23% of cosmetic surgery procedures were performed on 55+ patients. The top 5 operations were eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty), facelift, dermabrasion, liposuction and forehead lift. The two procedures which increased the most since 2014 were buttock lift and buttock implants, although total numbers were relatively small. Other common 55+ procedures were rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, breast lift, and lip augmentation.
Interestingly, the minimally invasive procedures were done much more frequently than surgery; which is logical since most are done as periodic maintenance on a regular basis. The top five were Botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peel, laser skin resurfacing and microdermabrasion.
