Ear Correction / Otoplasty: Case 5 (CID34610)
Description
This young lady came to Aesthetic Center Greenville to consult with Dr. Graham about improving her prominent ears. They had been like that since she was young. Her hearing was normal. The external ear is known as the pinna; hers were normal in many aspects, but the base projected the ear farther away from her head, and the largest internal contour (the antihelical fold) was not fully folded back. These combined to give the ears an overly prominent look. The correction surgery consists of artfully improving the shape of the ear cartilage. The only incision is concealed along the back of the ear. Numerous tiny permanent sutures gently force the antihelical fold into a more normal configuration. Each suture places a little tension to bend the fold from the back side. Some cartilage is removed from the base. When we are done, the ear looks better. And the patient can style her hair anyway she wishes.
