Ear Correction / Otoplasty: Case 6 (CID491370)
Description
This 23 yo woman felt uncomfortable with the protrusion of her ears. Her hearing was normal. The basic ear formation was normal, except for the base height (too tall) and the completness of the major fold withing the ear (antihelical fold). The correction Dr. Graham proposed consisted of modifying each of these characteristics in a natural and harmonious way. The procedure is done under anesthesia, from a hidden incision on the back of the ear. Excess cartilage is removed at the base and the antihelical fold is gently bent to more fully match a desirable contour. Recovery means wearing an elastic headband for the first week full time, then part-time for the next two weeks. For most people this means one week off work or school.
