Male Breast / Gynecomastia: Case 10 (33852)
Description
This 30 year old man came to Dr. Graham for treatment of excess male breast tissue accumulation on both sides. The condition is medically known as gynecomastia and is relatively common problem for young men. It is not caused by any recognized hormone or genetic abnormality. It is different from simple excess body fat in the chest; in this situation the male gland and fibrous elements over-develop. Liposuction can remove a portion of the associated fat, but the denser gland portion must usually be excised surgically. The excess tissue specimens are often surprisingly large, covering the pectoralis muscle and beyond. Surgery takes a few hours, usually through a 1.5 inch scar concealed around the lower areola. Recovery involves a compression vest for a few weeks and light physical activity. The results are natural and more masculine appearing. These guys will now join their friends outdoors without covering up with bulky shirts. It is quite popular.
